Gamification

Our team has been working on improving the demos for the EDAiDER platform based on feedback we received. We have also been learning more about the data structure and code of the wellbeing application and gaining expertise in Django and ReactJS.

Gamification is a significant aspect of our work, so we have been discussing and researching the desired effects of gamification and how we can incorporate various elements of gamification into our projects. We are committed to understanding the principles of gamification and how they can be effectively implemented to create engaging and enjoyable experiences for users.

Concept Restrictions

Given the sensitive nature of the subject matter and the target audience, there are many limitations on how we can gamify the service and which core concepts of gamification are appropriate to use. After considering input from EDAiDER, we have decided to only incorporate three out of the eight core concepts of gamification in our work. We understand the importance of being mindful of the limitations and requirements of the project, and we are committed to finding ways to effectively gamify the service while still being respectful and considerate of the needs and preferences of the audience.

We have carefully selected these three core concepts of gamification as the ones that we believe are the safest and most appropriate to use in combination with the wellbeing application. We will be using these concepts as the foundation for our designs of games and dashboards, ensuring that we create engaging and enjoyable experiences that are also sensitive to the needs and preferences of the audience. We are confident that these three concepts will provide a strong foundation for our work and will help us to effectively gamify the service in a way that is respectful and considerate of the needs of the users.

Further developed game

Moving Targets: We have decided to further enhance the Moving Targets game by re-writing it using ReactJS. This will not only make it easier to integrate into EDAiDER’s codebase, but it will also give us the opportunity to become more familiar with ReactJS.

In the future, we plan to incorporate the game into the end of the wellbeing form seamlessly, and we will also be adding additional features to the game through a user interface, such as a dashboard. By doing this, we hope to improve the overall user experience and make the game even more engaging and enjoyable.

New gamifications ideas

Bucket: We have also explored the idea of creating a new interactive structure for students to engage with by dragging and dropping answers into designated buckets, rather than simply clicking on them.

Flash/Memory: The Flash/Memory game involves showing or flashing a specific color or shape to the player, which they will then be tested on to see if they can remember it for a later question.

Multiplayer/Singleplayer World

Multiplayer/Singleplayer: A Multiplayer/Singleplayer World: A world where you can interact as your selected avatar to select your questions.

Dashboard

We have also begun designing the dashboard and considering potential new features such as achievements for students and the ability for teachers to select which games are available to individual students. The dashboard will provide an interface for accessing these functionalities.
